Fit Guide

How should a leather jacket fit a woman?

A great leather jacket should look like it was cut for you, not borrowed. Run through these six quick checks before you buy — they apply to any women's moto or leather jacket, including the Classic Regular Moto.

1. Shoulders: seams on the shoulder bone

This is the one fit point a tailor can't easily fix, so check it first. The shoulder seam should sit right on your shoulder bone, not drooping past it and not creeping up toward your neck. A moto jacket that sits correctly at the shoulder looks sharp even before you zip it up.

2. Chest and zip: zips without a fight

Zip the jacket all the way up and take a breath. It should close smoothly with no pulling or gaping across the chest, and the asymmetric front zip should lie flat instead of buckling. You want clean lines, not strain. If the zip looks stressed while you're standing still, it will look worse the moment you sit down.

3. Waist: shaped, not squeezed

A women's moto should define the waist, not compress it. On the Classic Regular Moto, the belted waist does the shaping work — fasten it and you should see a defined silhouette with room to move comfortably. If the belt leaves red marks or the jacket gaps open above and below it, that's a shape mismatch, not a size problem.

4. Sleeves: wrist length with a little slack

With your arms relaxed at your sides, sleeves should end right around the wrist bone. Slightly longer is fine for a moto look; sleeves that swallow your hands mean the jacket is too big in the frame, not just the arms. Reach forward like you're steering — the shoulder shouldn't hike up and the cuff shouldn't slide back past your wrist.

5. Body length: ending at or just past the hip

A classic moto sits at the waist or just below the belt line, long enough to cover a top or tucked-in shirt. That's the silhouette the jacket was designed for. Longer isn't wrong, but if you're buying a moto style, the cropped-to-hip length is the look — going longer turns it into a different jacket entirely.

6. Overall: tailored, with room for a layer

The best women's leather jackets have a tailored fit that skims the body without clinging. You should be able to slip a light sweater or a turtleneck underneath without the zip straining, and move your arms freely. Stand in front of a mirror in your normal base layer — tee or knit, not the thickest sweater you own — and that middle ground is your true size.

What about sizing up or down?

If you're between sizes, think about how you'll wear it. Mostly open over dresses and knits? Your smaller size usually drapes better. Worn zipped over thick sweaters all winter? Size up so the zip never fights you. And whenever you're unsure, check the fit guide before you order — it's there to take the guesswork out.
