Everyday cleaning: the damp-cloth wipe-down

After regular wear, wipe the jacket down with a soft, damp cloth — no soap needed for a routine pass. This lifts dust, city grime, and the light film that builds up on any jacket worn outdoors. Use gentle, even strokes and let the surface air-dry at room temperature afterward. Done regularly, this one habit does most of the work.

Spot cleaning: mild soap, dab don't rub

For a mark that a damp cloth won't lift, add a drop of mild soap to a damp cloth and dab the spot gently — don't scrub, which can dull the finish. Wipe away any soap residue with a clean damp cloth, then let the area air-dry. For anything you're unsure about, test on a hidden spot first, like the inside of a hem.

What never to do

Vegan leather is low-maintenance, not indestructible. Never machine wash or tumble dry the jacket — agitation and heat will damage the finish far faster than any amount of wear. Skip bleach, harsh solvents, and abrasive cleaners entirely. And don't iron it directly; if a crease bothers you, hanging the jacket properly (below) usually relaxes it on its own.

Caught in the rain? Air-dry at room temperature

A light rain won't hurt a vegan leather jacket — just hang it up when you get inside and let it air-dry at room temperature. Keep it away from direct heat sources like radiators, hairdryers, or a hot car dashboard while it dries; concentrated heat is the enemy of a smooth finish. Once dry, give it the damp-cloth wipe-down to clear any water spots.

Hanging: wide, sturdy, always

How you hang the jacket matters as much as how you clean it. Use a wide, sturdy hanger that supports the shoulders — thin wire hangers let the shoulders slump and crease over time. Zip or button the jacket closed on the hanger so it holds its shape, and give it breathing room in the closet rather than crushing it between heavier coats. Storage: cool, dry, out of the sun

Between seasons, store the jacket in a cool, dry spot away from prolonged direct sunlight and heat, both of which can fade and dry out the finish over time. A breathable garment bag is ideal for long storage; avoid sealed plastic, which traps moisture. Toss in a cedar block or lavender sachet if you like — they keep things fresh without touching the jacket itself.
